Wedding Wishes

A few months ago, one of my best friends Kayla showed me a creative way she found on pinterest to compile the cards her and her husband received from guests at their wedding. I'm not sure if this is the exact pin, but here is a more simple example.

I decided I'd like to have one too for our wedding cards so we can go back and reminisce whenever we want! I went to the arts and crafts store and chose some cute, sturdy scrapbook papers and copied her design exactly. She's got one of those fancy cricut machines and a sticker maker, so we went to town to create mine!

Kayla and I spent one of my last evenings in Boone putting the front and back covers together... with a lot of help from her hubby since we somehow managed to cut crooked lines using straight edges. I still don't get it!

Either way, once we got here and unpacked our things, this project was one of the first things I tackled!

Here she is:

What I'll Miss

We leave this week for Arizona, and I've been reflecting a lot lately on what I love about this town of Boone and what I will miss most about the place that holds a very special place in my heart.

Let's just start by saying I'm a mountains kind of girl. Ever since high school I always wanted to go to Appalachian State and live in this town of Boone that I'd visited on occasion during my childhood. The beauty of the mountains has never ceased to take my breath away. During my college years at App, I felt so entirely blessed to be a Mountaineer and enjoy the beauty (rain or shine!) on a daily basis.

Needless to say, it was difficult for me to move back home after college and then even further away when I lived out east in "the flatlands" (as I affectionately call it) in order to take on my first year of teaching. Since June, however, my hubby brought us back to the mountains to live out our last 8 months on NC soil (HALLELUJAH!) before moving out west to Arizona.

Ok, so here are my favorite pieces:

First and foremost.. Appalachian State University. My Alma Mater lies at the heart of this town. I'm just a little partial to this little place nestled in the Appalachian Mountains.

To tag on to that... I'll also miss Kidd Brewer Stadium dearly. At 3,333 feet,
it's something a Mountaineer will always hold close to their heart!

Driving on the Parkway. It's beautiful any time of year, but especially in the Fall.
If you haven't had the pleasure of taking this route, then I'll answer your question:
Yes, it really is this beautiful!
(and no, I didn't take this picture)

Woodlands' BBQ

Live music at Woodlands, including Wagon Wheel. Ohh yeah.

Mellow Mushroom's Funky Q Chicken Pizza.. even though there's a
Mellow in Phoenix, it won't be the same. Plus, it'll be a 30+ minute drive.

Coyote Kitchen. This is my all time favorite place to eat in Boone.
(Is it bad that what I'll miss is mostly food?!)

This one is mainly for hubs. Bojangles is a staple in the south that we will defintiely
miss. Especially their sweet tea. Do they serve sweet tea in AZ restaurants?

This one isn't specific to Boone.. just to the southeast. We'll miss this sweet goodness!
Brad and I are bringing a stash of it with us though (and Ben, if you're reading
this: we're bringing some for you and Sheana anyway.. deal with it!) :)

Our Monday wing night tradition at Macado's. And def. the cinnamon rolls.

OH, one more....

I will not miss the infamous Wendy's intersection traffic.

Goodbye for now, iPod.

I recently rediscovered the iTrip I had hiding out in my car and got really excited because it would make the drive out to AZ more enjoyable. Yesterday morning at approximately 8:01a.m. on my way to work, I was jamming to Jack Johnson when Mr. iPod cut off and didn't come back to life. It was a sad, sad morning.

Since then, I have charge said iPod and tried playing it with a regular AUX connector cable thingy in hubby's car. Died again. Haven't tried reviving again... I'm crossing my fingers on this one though!

Super Bowl Commercials

So everyone knows one of the best parts of watching the Superbowl is the halftime show are the commercials. I know this is mid-week and post Superbowl Sunday... and that I didn't make it through the whole game, but this was my favorite this year:

Punxsutawney Phil

Happy Groundhog's Day!

This guy (and by guy I mean groundhog) apparently saw his shadow today. 6 more weeks of winter await us, and from what I hear February is going to be a doozy as far as cold, wintery weather goes! Bring on the snow!!

This is the Stuff

this is the stuff that drives me crazy
this is the stuff that's getting to me lately
in the middle of my little mess,
i forget how big i'm blessed

this is the stuff that gets under my skin
but i've gotta trust You know exactly what you're doing
might not be what i would choose
but this is the stuff You use

so break me of impatience
conquer my frustrations
i've got a new appreciation
it's not the end of the world

On my way to work this morning, Francesca Battistelli's hit came on the radio. I've heard it a thousand times and it's catchy, sure. Before this morning it hadn't sunk into my heart though.

With a big move coming up for hubs and I, we have been house hunting, looking at cars and job searching (teacher positions) every day now for the past two weeks. It is tiring and has been accompanied by disappointments. Several houses we've been interested in have recently been leased when we get in touch with the realtor. In looking for positions, I've run into roadblocks and paperwork that keeps adding up each day. It gets  frustrating after a while and some days it just gets to me.

Not to mention having to think about when we need to start packing, when we can pick up a rental truck to load up and when we will have to say our good-byes here in NC. UGH! I've tried and tried to not think about leaving my beloved Boone and these beautiful mountains, but it creeps closer every day. (We'll be leaving mid-March)

Anyway... Thank you, God, for the reminder I needed to rest in Your love and that I'm blessed beyond measure.

Just Because

My wonderful hubby brought me these beautiful tulips today after running some errands around town. I love how he picks out the flowers with reddish, yellowish, and orangeish tones... the colors from our wedding!

Who wouldn't love beautiful flowers (in a nice southern mason jar) on a sunny, snowy Friday?!

Camera Down!

A couple weeks ago, my poor sweet Canon got a few grains of sand stuck in the lens. Result? Lens wouldn't close, i.e. broken camera. No one seems to be able to fix it in town and when I've asked around everyone has said that with the cost of repair it'd be better to just get a new camera.

Hubby took Canon apart a few days ago to see if he could get to the lens. Result?

Goodbye, my Canon!

Now begins the search for a replacement camera. Until I get a new one all blog pictures will be courtesy of my phone! I want to stick with Canon brand since I'm used to how they operate, I've got a couple batteries, charger and memory card for it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? If so leave a comment!

Thanks!!
